Biography
Stephen, a Colorado native, grew up in the Denver metro area and has built his legal career around public service, advocacy, and guiding individuals through complex legal issues. He began his legal career gaining experience in criminal defense and landlord-tenant law before working in regulatory oversight. Through these experiences, Stephen developed a strong foundation in litigation, complex legal analysis, and guiding individuals through challenging and uncertain circumstances.
Stephen later transitioned into family law while also gaining experience in probate and estate planning. He now brings his varied legal background to his role as an Associate Attorney in Modern Family Law’s Fort Collins office. His experience with complex legal issues and litigation allows him to approach family law matters with careful analysis, practical judgment, and attention to detail.
Stephen is dedicated to providing thoughtful, steady representation to clients through these moments. He cares deeply about ensuring clients feel heard, supported, and informed. His goal is to provide clear guidance, strong advocacy, and practical solutions that help clients make confident decisions and move forward with greater stability and insight.
Interesting Facts
Stephen is the youngest of six boys, an experience that helped shape his patience, perspective, and ability to connect with different personalities. Outside of work, he enjoys running, music, and staying active.
Stephen is committed to community service. His volunteer experience includes participating in the Platte River Cleanup, serving as a scoring judge for high school mock trial competitions, and volunteering with the Boulder County Bar Association Legal Clinic.
Stephen’s approach is grounded in clarity, preparation, and practical problem-solving. He understands that family law matters often involve uncertainty, difficult decisions, and competing priorities. Stephen works with clients to identify their goals, understand the facts, and develop a strategy that is both realistic and tailored to their circumstances.
Stephen also believes that effective advocacy starts with caring about the person behind the case. He takes the time to listen to each client’s concerns and to understand the personal impact of the issues they are facing. By leading with care and compassion while remaining focused on practical solutions, Stephen works to help clients feel supported, informed, and prepared throughout their case.
Stephen graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy. Following graduation, he attended law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he developed a strong interest in public service, housing policy, and advocacy for underserved communities. He received his Juris Doctor in May of 2023.
During law school, Stephen was one of the authors of “Boundaries and Barriers: Denver’s Policy Choices to Force Visible Poverty from Public View.” Stephen also served as a speaker for the article’s release and community meeting in August of 2023.
