Biography
Marissa Huntsman is a family law attorney based in Modern Family Law’s Colorado Springs office. With a background in psychology, biology, and behavioral health, she brings a unique understanding of the complex interpersonal and emotional dynamics that often arise in divorce, child custody, and other family law matters.
Originally from Indiana, Marissa moved to Colorado in 2023 after earning her Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Her decision to pursue a legal career grew from a longstanding desire to serve her community and advocate for people navigating difficult circumstances.
Before entering the legal profession, Marissa worked as a behavioral technician, helping individuals experiencing mental health challenges transition toward independent living. That experience deepened her understanding of how mental health and other personal circumstances can affect individuals and families and inspired her to explore how the legal system can be used to support people during vulnerable periods in their lives.
During law school, Marissa continued that commitment to advocacy through her work with Indiana University’s Health and Human Rights Clinic, where she represented underserved individuals in landlord-tenant matters. Her clinical experience strengthened her ability to listen carefully, understand each client’s individual circumstances, and advocate for practical solutions to challenging legal problems.
Today, Marissa draws on her diverse background to help Colorado families navigate sensitive and emotionally complex legal matters. Her understanding of psychology and interpersonal dynamics provides valuable perspective in family law cases involving mental health concerns, substance abuse, domestic violence, and other issues that can affect parents, children, and families.

Marissa earned her Juris Doctor in 2023 before relocating to Colorado, where she now applies her interdisciplinary background and commitment to advocacy to helping individuals and families navigate Colorado family law matters.
