Biography
Chanel was born in Minnesota but raised in Washington, an upbringing that helped shape her great sense of community, leadership, and purpose.
Chanel’s passion for law and advocacy began with her involvement in the Washington state disability community. As an enthusiastic volunteer in her community, it became her consuming desire to give a voice to those without. Her leadership was honored as a spokesperson sent to the Washington State Legislature on behalf of the autism community in Washington State.
Chanel is an enrolled member of the Quinault Nation, a tribe located along the coast of Washington. She was raised to honor her Indigenous roots through service, steadfast commitment, and a dedication to learning her family’s history and culture. Chanel is one of the seven lawyers in her tribe’s history. Her legal career began through extensive work within Native American communities, including the Puyallup Tribe and the Tulalip Tribe of Indians. Through this work with Indigenous families and children, she developed skillful case management, attentive communication, and strong cultural respect.
Before joining Modern Family Law, Chanel served as an associate attorney in civil litigation in Seattle. As a civil litigator, she gained mediation and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to strategically help clients achieve practical outcomes that align with their overall goals.
Chanel joined Modern Family Law to provide meaningful support to individuals and families experiencing some of the most trying times in their lives. She is dedicated to protecting the rights of her clients because practicing law is more than a career; it is a privilege and a great responsibility.
Interesting Facts
Outside of legal practice, Chanel enjoys cedar weaving, nature walks, reading, writing, cooking, and baking.
The key to Chanel’s legal strategy is prioritizing clear communication with her clients and translating complex legal concepts into understandable steps throughout their legal journey. While addressing immediate legal needs, she works to empower her clients to make informed decisions about their future and position themselves for long-term success and stability.
Once that foundation is established, Chanel focuses on building a strong, trusting relationship with her clients. She strives to be not only a legal advocate but also a reliable resource throughout the process. To her, each case is different and requires creativity, attention to detail, and determination to find fair, practical solutions.
Chanel earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego, graduating with a double major in English and Theatre. Returning to her roots in Washington, she went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law in May 2019.
For nearly three decades, Chanel has devoted herself to serving Washington’s autism community and fiercely advocating for disability rights. She has served as a volunteer and speaker for organizations assisting individuals and families affected by autism, helping raise funds through multiple walks, galas, and events with more than two hundred participants. These experiences continue to inform and shape her approach to family law, reinforcing the importance of passionate and thoughtful advocacy and a deep commitment to families and individuals in vulnerable circumstances.
