LLP Swearing-In Marks Progress In Access To Justice

On June 16, 2025, Colorado proudly welcomed a new class of Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals (LLPs) during a special Swearing-In Ceremony in Denver. This celebratory event marked an important milestone, not only for the newly sworn-in LLPs but for Colorado’s legal system as a whole. The ceremony was a moment of pride and progress, reflecting the state’s commitment to making legal services more accessible for all.

What Is An LLP?

Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals are trained legal professionals authorized to handle specific family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and child support. With defined authority under Colorado Rule of Civil Procedure 207.1, LLPs can represent clients in court, draft legal documents, and provide legal advice, bridging the gap between costly legal fees and no legal help at all.

A Program With Purpose

The Colorado Supreme Court developed the LLP program to tackle the state’s growing access to justice crisis. With thousands of Coloradans forced to represent themselves in family law cases due to cost barriers, LLPs provide a more cost-effective alternative. The program ensures that those without the means to hire a traditional attorney can still receive skilled legal guidance and advocacy.

Journey To Becoming An LLP

Becoming an LLP in Colorado isn’t easy. Candidates must meet rigorous educational and experience requirements, pass a licensing exam, and be approved by the Colorado Supreme Court. The June 16th ceremony honored those who passed the April LLP Exam and took the official Oath of Admission, formally granting them the privilege and responsibility of practicing in this groundbreaking role.

Why LLPs Matter

Colorado courts continue to see high numbers of self-represented litigants in family law cases. LLPs are helping to change that. By offering high-quality legal services at lower costs, LLPs empower families to navigate complex legal issues with confidence. Their presence also supports a more efficient judicial process by reducing the burden on courts and ensuring better-prepared litigants.

Modern Family Law’s Support Of Colorado LLPs

At Modern Family Law, we proudly support the Colorado LLP program and employ Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals in each of our Colorado offices. We believe in this profession’s power to make justice more attainable and are proud to help LLPs grow into essential members of the legal community.

As Colorado’s LLP program continues to grow, so too will the opportunities for cost-effective legal support. This new class of LLPs represents more than individual achievement; they represent progress, compassion, and a justice system that better serves everyone. Congratulations to the June 2025 LLPs, Colorado is stronger with you in it.
