Nicolas Mahoy

Nic Mahoy is a seasoned trial attorney with wide-ranging experience who handles all sorts of family law matters.  Before joining the team at Modern Family Law, Nic spent time as a Deputy District Attorney in the 20^th and 12^th Judicial Districts, at one point specializing in prosecuting domestic violence and sexual assault cases.  He also represented plaintiffs in personal injury, medical malpractice, and insurance bad faith cases.

Nic is, above all, compassionate – striving to meet clients where they are in times of uncertainty and pain.   He has helped individuals through all kinds of adverse circumstances, from injury and victimization of crimes to managing all sorts of familial strife.  His greatest professional satisfaction comes from guiding people through times when they feel lost and scared and overwhelmed, and helping walk with them walk to a new place of security, closure, and normality. 

Nic’s diverse experience includes a strong background in negotiations.  He values the knowledge of how to work with opposing counsel, mediators, judges, and the other frequently seen members of the legal process to secure optimal outcomes without the expense and stress of trial.  But he is also no stranger to the courtroom, having led over a dozen jury trials in the civil and criminal worlds in addition to all kinds of hearings in the domestic relations sphere.  This experience helps him to gauge outcomes and also to strengthen his negotiating power. 

Interesting Facts

• Nic is an avid yoga practitioner, and spends his time not representing clients, trying to figure out how to improve his headstand
• Nic also enjoys playing board and tabletop games with his friends and family, but works hard to keep the courtroom competitiveness out of those settings
• In college, Nic focused on classical trombone performance and also ran Division 1 cross country.
