Parenting time schedules should be highly customized to fit the developmental needs of the children. Each family is different so this can be a very difficult challenge. But the more detail you put in, the less conflict there may be. The following schedules are only samples to help you understand the issues.

Why Choose Every Other Week?

An every-other-week schedule may be good for older, more independent children. It may also be a good schedule if there is a high level of confrontation between the parents during transitions.

Why Choose 5-2-2-5?

This schedule may be good for consistency since a parent gets the same two days every week. This schedule may work well with an activity-heavy schedule, or a parent who always works weekends. It may not be the best for very young children.

Why Choose Every Other Weekend?

An every-other-weekend schedule is common where one parent is unable to parent consistently. This give that parent some time with the kids, but most of the time is spent with the other parent.

Why Choose 4-3-3-4?

A favorite with school-aged kids with cooperative parents. This schedule gives the kids the same 3 days every week with each parent. It provides a high level of predictability and consistency. It works well with kids who are active in sports or other extracurricular activities.

Why Choose 2-2-3?

This schedule is common with younger children and cooperative parents. It’s difficult to manage if there is ongoing conflict between the parents. Parents who live at a distance find this a difficult schedule due to heavy travel requirements.
