Biography
Jurie Joyner is a Georgia family law attorney who helps individuals and families navigate divorce, child custody, child support, legitimation, modification, contempt, and other domestic relations matters. A Georgia native, she approaches each case with careful preparation, practical advice, and a clear understanding of the client’s goals.
At Modern Family Law, Jurie manages cases through pleadings, discovery, negotiation, mediation, and trial preparation. She has appeared in court for family law hearings and understands that the outcome of a case can have a lasting effect on a client’s family, finances, and daily life.
Jurie’s interest in family law is also rooted in her own family history. Her mother was adopted by her aunt in the Philippines before immigrating to the United States. Growing up with that story gave Jurie an appreciation for the many ways families are formed and helped draw her to family law.
Before focusing her practice on family law, Jurie practiced civil litigation and insurance defense. That experience gave her a strong foundation in case strategy, written advocacy, discovery, and courtroom preparation. It also taught her to evaluate cases from multiple perspectives and anticipate the arguments likely to be raised by the opposing side.
Outside the office, Jurie enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, cooking, gardening, and exploring Savannah. She also enjoys staying active, regularly practices Pilates, and spends time with her husband, family, friends, and mini Goldendoodle, Lumpia.

Jurie was a four-year student-athlete at the University of Pennsylvania, where she played softball and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
Jurie was born on April Fools’ Day.
Jurie was voted “Most Likely to Be a TV Judge” in law school.
Her favorite travel destination is Switzerland.
Jurie prefers to resolve cases without unnecessary conflict when that can be done without sacrificing the client’s interests. She uses negotiation and mediation to narrow disputed issues, control costs, and give clients more say in the outcome. However, she does not view settlement as the goal at any price. A willingness to negotiate does not mean giving up leverage or accepting an unfair result.
Jurie gives clients a candid assessment of their case, including its strengths, risks, and likely costs. If a fair resolution is possible, she works toward it. If the other side is unreasonable or the court needs to decide an issue, she is prepared to litigate and present the client’s position clearly.
Jurie earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied Political Science and minored in Legal Studies at the Wharton School of Business. As a Division I softball player, she developed the discipline, teamwork, and competitiveness that continue to influence her legal practice.
Jurie earned her Juris Doctor from Mercer University School of Law, where she served as the President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA). Following law school, she was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Donald W. Gillis in the Dublin Judicial Circuit. Working closely with a Superior Court judge gave her valuable insight into how courts evaluate evidence and legal arguments specifically in family law matters.
