Biography
Alexis Melo Chavez is an attorney at Modern Family Law’s San Jose office, where he represents individuals and families in some of the most consequential moments of their lives. His practice is grounded in a clear conviction: the law should serve people, not intimidate them. Whether guiding a parent through custody litigation or handling complex financial disputes involving significant assets, Melo brings precision, composure, and strength to every case.
As a first-generation Latino attorney, Melo understands what instability feels like and what security means. Family law is never just a legal issue. It is housing, livelihood, children, reputation, and long-term opportunity. He approaches each matter with that reality in mind. He listens carefully. He asks direct questions. He builds a strategy around what his client actually needs, not what prolongs conflict.
Before focusing his practice on family law, Melo trained in sophisticated corporate legal environments, working with companies such as ServiceNow and Marvell Technology, and earning selection to the Google Legal Summer Institute. There, he developed fluency in corporate governance, complex contracts, equity structures, and high-level negotiation. Melo now brings corporate precision into personal disputes where financial stakes are significant.
Melo is fluent in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) and proudly represents Spanish-speaking clients.
“Como abogado, entiendo que los asuntos legales pueden ser profundamente personales. Ofrezco representación completa en español para que mis clientes se sientan escuchados, comprendidos y plenamente informados en cada etapa de su caso”.
Melo believes in resolving disputes efficiently when possible. Prolonged conflict drains families emotionally and financially. But when resolution is not possible, he is unwavering. He prepares thoroughly, analyzes financial records with discipline, and presents his client’s position with clarity and force. He is comfortable across the table from well-funded opposition and equally committed to protecting clients who feel outmatched.
Outside of his legal practice, Melo stays grounded through reading, Korean dramas, and time outdoors. He is drawn to stories that explore resilience, relationships, and the complexity of human decision-making, themes that closely reflect the realities his clients face.
Interesting Facts
The first question Melo asks his clients is simple: “What does stability look like for you?” He believes strategy begins with clarity. By understanding what truly matters, whether it is protecting a relationship with a child, preserving financial security, or closing a chapter with dignity, he builds a plan designed around long-term outcomes rather than short-term emotion.
For Melo, it is not about “winning” for the sake of winning. It is about securing outcomes that protect his clients’ futures and restore balance to their lives. He works tirelessly behind the scenes, analyzing details, anticipating challenges, and preparing each case with care and discipline. His goal is simple: to ensure his clients leave the process stronger, more secure, and positioned for the next chapter with confidence.
Melo earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology and his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from the University of California, Davis, where he was part of the university’s honors program.
He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was awarded the prestigious Dean’s Fellow scholarship, a full-tuition honor granted to a select few students. During law school, Melo gained experience working within the legal departments of global technology leaders such as ServiceNow and Marvell Technology, as well as legal technology innovator LegalOn Technologies and established law firms, such as Albert & Mackenzie and Uplift Law. Today, he brings the same level of discipline, preparation, and strategic clarity developed in those high-level environments to his family law practice, guiding clients through deeply personal challenges with steadiness, compassion, and thoughtful advocacy.
