Stephen Carbonneau is a Senior Attorney at Modern Family Law and is a distinguished practitioner in Denver, Colorado. Stephen has practiced as a litigator since 2018, with a primary focus on all aspects of family law matters since 2020. Stephen prides himself on bringing the experience, skill, and knowledge to help guide you through the challenges of your family law case.
Stephen began his career as a trial attorney working as a Deputy District Attorney serving Grand County, where his practice focused on in-court litigation concerning criminal matters. In 2020, Stephen transitioned to private practice with a primary focus on family law since then. Stephen also worked on civil litigation, business disputes, real estate, and criminal defense matters. After working for another firm in the Denver area for several years, Stephen was offered a Senior Attorney position at Modern Family Law. Knowing the firm’s excellent reputation for compassion, skill, and forward-thinking, Stephen jumped at the opportunity.
Stephen provides an experience-based approach to develop the best individualized strategies for each client’s case. Stephen seamlessly blends the analytical side of cases with compassion and respect for the clients he serves. He is passionate about being of service to the people he represents and tirelessly works to have their voices heard.
When Stephen is not working with clients, he spends as much time outside in the mountains as possible. Stephen is an avid mountain biker and skier, and spends most of his free time doing these things.

From there, he works with clients to help them understand the legal and procedural framework of how to get to their desired outcome. Stephen fosters a collaborative approach with his clients by encouraging open communication and regularly updating clients on the status of their matter.
Stephen has extensive experience negotiating settlements on behalf of clients, whether before, during or after mediation. While Stephen always strives to reach an amicable resolution, his extensive experience as a trial attorney allows him and his clients to confidently proceed to court when the parties cannot reach a settlement.
Stephen completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami, where he graduated cum laude in 2015. Stephen then attended the University of Colorado Law School and graduated in 2018.
